Ledley ready for battle

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Ledley King insists the boys are ready to battle to secure the victory in what can often be perceived as a no-win situation at Tranmere in tonight's Worthington Cup tie.

The team travelled up north on Monday evening straight after training to prepare for what is sure to be a tough encounter at Prenton Park and the players know what they are up against.

Even though Tranmere are now a Division Two side, they are renowned Cup fighters - as teams such as Everton, Leeds, Middlesbrough and Southampton have found out to their cost in the last couple of seasons.

A passionate Birkenhead crowd awaits, and the locals are used to witnessing reputations being shattered under the lights on famous Cup evenings. Premiership sides are expected to win and defeats tend to be recorded as shocks, Ledley is well aware of this and says the boys are prepared and ready to battle.

"Definitely, we just watched a video of them," said Leds. "At their ground it's going to be a really tough game, the crowd get behind them and we're expecting that - we're ready for it though."

Ledley admits that the international break was a timely one after the second half mauling by Manchester United, but he confessed to a touch of sheepishness on arrival at England's under-21 base.

"In a way, it could have been. But when I turned up there on the first day I didn't really want to show my face.

"After that it was fine and now we've come back I've tried to get it out of my head and get on with the rest of the games."

Ledley says that one of Tranmere's much talked about cup fighters was missing on the video - exorcet throw master Dave Challinor, who, it turns out is currently on bench duty for Rovers.

"I didn't see him, a few of the players were asking about him, remembering his big throws, but I didn't see him.

"So hopefully he's not playing," laughed Ledley.

King is 33/1 to open the scoring tonight - click for details.
