Ledley: I was close to tears
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Ledley King comes face to face with one of his fellow England heroes on Sunday.
Our outstanding prospect played a huge part in England Under-21’s memorable wins against Germany and Albania last week.
Southampton’s highly-rated full-back Wayne Bridge also caught the eye in the victories that preceded the senior team’s double success.
As the pair prepare to meet in the Premiership at the Lane, Ledley recalled his emotions on that famous night in Freiburg when Francis Jeffers secured a 2-1 success with the last kick of the game.
“I was totally gutted when Germany equalised so late,” admitted Ledley. “I felt close to tears to be honest but we managed to go up the other end and score with the last kick of the game.
“That was a great moment, something you dream about.
“We knew it would be tough in Germany and we managed to come away with the three points. It was a matter of making sure we finished off with the right result against Albania, which we did.
“Wayne did superbly for us and now I’m playing against him. He’s a great left-back and I know him quite well.”
Ledley also knows how important Sunday is. “It will be a tough game against Southampton,” he said. “We struggled against them last season, lost at their place and drew 0-0 at White Hart Lane. We’re looking to get a victory, definitely.
“I’m enjoying it. It’s the first time I’ve had a good pre-season under my belt and managed to stay fit. Hopefully I’ll stay fit and continue to perform.”
