Ledley: I feel on top of the world!

Thu 15 May 2014, 16:05|Tottenham Hotspur

Ledley King wore a broad smile as he reflected on a fantastic Testimonial at the Lane.

Our legendary former captain's special occasion attracted a full house at the Lane on Monday night as fans thrilled to see both him and his ex-team-mates strutt their stuff again.

Ledley even scored from the penalty spot as his Guest XI toppled a first team XI 6-3 - Teddy Sheringham netted twice and Louis Saha stole the show with a hat-trick in the second half.

"The reception I received out there was something special," said Ledley, a one-club man who played 324 games for us in a professional career spanning 1999-2012, from his debut at Anfield through to Champions League football in 2010-11.

"For the fans to turn up again after the last game of the season was at home on Sunday, to come back again a day later was amazing. As I said before, the effort everyone put in to make it all happen, I’ll remember that for a long time.

"It’s difficult to take it all in. Everyone said to me to enjoy it as much as I could. Before the game, I was worrying about my knee, my performance. I hadn’t done anything for two years, so to get this point took a little work!

"My knee was fine out there, it was just the fitness that was a problem and chasing those kids around!

"It was great to have the past and present out there. I thought my team was outstanding and showed their quality - Teddy, David, Darren and Louis looked like he could still play. We played on the break – that was our tactic! Soak it up and break!

"Once again, I’d like to thank the club for giving me the opportunity to have a Testimionial match and the teams for giving their time and all the people behind the scenes that worked so hard to make it happen."
