Ledley finds Safe Haven for Tottenham’s youth

Ledley King last week took part in an event that announced the GLA owned Enterprise Centre, 639 High Road Tottenham, becoming a City Safe Haven (CSH) as part of a vital scheme run by Citizens UK to keep our young people safe on our streets.

The Club Ambassador joined Yvonne Lawson, mother of murdered teenager Godwin Lawson, and pupils from Holy Trinity Primary School to place a sticker in the window of the building, so that young people can see that 639 is a safe haven for them if they are feeling threatened whilst on the street. 

Staff and volunteers at 639 have undergone the necessary CSH training, and will look after that young person until they have been able to reach parents, guardians or in extreme cases, the police.

Like other City Safe Havens in Tottenham, it will be dedicated to the memory of Godwin Lawson, who was killed in a street attack in 2010.

Ledley said: “It is important that our young people can feel safe on the streets of Tottenham and initiatives like this go a long way towards achieving that.

“The 639 building has become a real hub for the community since its re-opening last year and I will continue to support its work in my role as a Team London Youth Ambassador with the GLA.”
