Ledley fair at middling

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Ledley King feels that he is becoming more comfortable in his central role as he prepares to do battle with former teammate Stephen Clemence for midfield supremacy against Birmingham tonight.

It was put to the versatile Ledley that his delightful scooped through ball for Fredi Kanoute's third against Crystal Palace on Saturday was a sign of him becoming further accomplished in the position and, after a spot of modest hesitation, he just about agreed.

"I think I am getting a bit more comfortable in it," he pondered. "I always said that it would take a bit of time to adapt and, game by game, I am feeling a bit more comfortable."

Given his powerful frame, it would be easy to imagine Ledley being assigned to the middle of the pitch in order to carry out the more destructive duties but, as his creative side demonstrated in the FA Cup, he has been given licence to join in with the offensive play.

"I'm in there mainly to try and break up the play if someone is playing in the hole or dropping off the front and give the ball simple to players that can do damage at the other end.

"If there is a chance for me to get forward, the manager has said it is not always about someone like Gus getting up there and we can rotate a little bit. It's nice to get the chance to go forward and see what you can create for the team," he added, before laughing when asked if his 'Fredi assist' was as good as scoring himself.

"I haven't scored for ages so I've forgotten what that feeling is like! Obviously it was nice and I'm glad Fredi finished it off so well."

It's Birmingham tonight and a midfield meeting with old mate Clemence - a goalscorer last time out for the Blues in the FA Cup against Blackburn.

"They are good team. They work hard and are always difficult to play against. I expect it to be tough, but we have got to take some confidence out of our last game and this is one we need to win.

"Clem was a bit unfortunate with injuries here and didn't always get the opportunities. All the lads will tell you he is a good player and, when he did play here, he always put on a good performance.

"He is scoring some goals now and we have to make sure he doesn't do the same against us."
