Learning curve for Dele

12 November 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Humble Dele Alli hopes to further hone his craft alongside some of the best players England has to offer during the international break.

The talented 19-year-old is with the senior Three Lions squad in Alicante ahead of Friday’s friendly against Spain, with a further test to come against France at Wembley on Tuesday.

Having earned his first call-up and two subsequent caps against Estonia and Lithuania during October, the midfielder says he feels “honoured” to have retained his place in the fold this month.

And he believes the chance to work alongside some of England’s more established senior international stars can only help his development as a player.

“It’s a great honour for me and obviously I’m delighted to be involved,” said Dele. “I can’t get carried away, though, as I’ve still got a lot to take on board and this is a great environment for me to go and learn from some of the best players in the country.

“It’s not going to be easy but it’s all good experience. I’m still young and I’ve still got a lot to learn, but whenever I go out onto the pitch I always try to play as well as I can. Obviously I’ll go out there, try my best in training and try to get some minutes on the pitch.

“It’s a great opportunity but I know I’ve got to carry on performing well and keep the form I’ve been in recently.

“I’m really thankful to all the players at Spurs for helping me to perform and also to all the staff and the Head Coach at the club for selecting me this season.”
