Late wins for youngsters
06 August 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
There were dramatic late victories for both our Development Squad and Under-18s in their final pre-season friendlies before the start of the season today (Saturday, August 6).
Anthony Georgiou was on target twice while we also benefitted from a Ryan Loft strike and a 90th-minute own goal as the Development Squad beat Fulham 4-3 at the Training Centre.
Kyle Walker-Peters was harshly penalised for a foul in the box which allowed the Cottagers to take a 16th-minute lead from the penalty spot.
We had a penalty of our own 13 minutes later when Nathan Oduwa was brought down by the Fulham keeper but, after picking himself up to take the spot kick, Oduwa was unable to convert and it remained 1-0.
We got back on level terms on 35 minutes through Georgiou, who then doubled his tally to put us in front eight minutes after the break.
Fulham equalised on the hour mark, Loft made it 3-2 on 72 minutes before the Cottagers levelled once more six minutes from time.
However, in the 90th minute, the game was won as a Fulham defender’s header cannoned off the back of his team-mate and went into the net.
Elsewhere, defender Joy Mukena popped up with a late winner as our Under-18s came back from a goal down to claim a 2-1 victory away to Charlton Athletic.
We fell behind on 35 minutes at the Addicks’ Sparrows Lane training ground but struck back 20 minutes into the second period through Reo Griffiths.
Centre-back Mukena then got forward to grab the winner in the 86th minute.
The Development Squad start their Premier League 2 campaign at home to Everton on Monday, August 15, while the Under-18s host Southampton in their Under-18 Premier League opener on Saturday, August 13.
