Late goal 'painful' - Jan
Jan Vertonghen admitted West Brom's late equaliser was an agonising end to his full Spurs debut.
James Morrison struck in the 91st minute to rescue a 1-1 draw for the Baggies in the Premier League at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
Having dominated the first hour, Benoit Assou-Ekotto eventually rifled us ahead after 74 minutes - but Morrison’s calm finish in injury time somewhat ruined the day for debutant Jan plus Gylfi Sigurdsson, Andre Villas-Boas and his coaching team on their first match at the Lane.
Jan impressed on his first appearance, composed on the ball, strong in the tackle and a late, goalsaving block from Romalu Lukaku had the fans on their feet.
He also had the ball in the net in the final seconds - but a dream finale was ended by the linesman’s flag.
“It was our first game at home this season and we really wanted to win, so it’s painful we drew the game,” said Jan.
“We created a few good chances in the first half for myself, Jermain Defoe, Aaron Lennon and once we scored we really wanted to keep the three points.
“But West Brom had the energy to press us and in the end scored in the 91st minute. As I said, that was painful.”
