Lars on the spot
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Lars Hirschfeld was on the spot for one of the big talking points in the game in our reserve win at Ipswich on Wednesday night - coming through with flying colours.
Our Canadian goalkeeper saved Dean Bowditch's penalty in the second half of our 3-2 FA Premier Reserve League win at Portman Road.
It was a pivotal moment with the scores level after 76 minutes. Seconds later, we broke down the other end and Stephane Dalmat scored what turned out to be the winner.
Penalties have been in the spotlight with officials following strict new guidelines, most of all a new rule stating that goalkeepers cannot take a step forward off the line before the ball is kicked.
It's led to controversy of late with some saves being ordered to be retaken - Paul Robinson's magnificent save for Leeds from David Dunn, for example, while some keepers haven't been punished, Celtic's Alan Thompson suffering in midweek when Lens' Gregory Coupet was at least a yard off his line in making his save.
Assistant referees can now be found level with the goalkeeper on the goal line and, as Lars explained, the rule has made it even harder for keepers, whose natural move to save any shot is forward.
"The officials were being really stringent about me taking a step forward," said Lars. "The linesman was shouting 'don't step, don't step'.
"It's one of those things. Sometimes you will get away with, sometimes you won't.
"It's difficult though because we're always taught to move forward in saving a ball. You try to get every inch you can, especially from that close."
