Lads speak out on safety

Academy players Olumide Durojaiye and Jesse Waller-Lassen were guests as over 100 children and young people from Enfield played a leading part in a conference to mark national ‘Keep Safe Week’.

Keeping Safe in Enfield took place at the Dugdale Centre in Enfield town and was set up by the Enfield Safeguarding Children Board (ESCB) - a partnership between the council and local voluntary groups, police and health services that act for and on behalf of children, their families and carers.

The pair sat on a panel and shared their experiences on issues affecting the safety of young people today.

Cllr Ayfer Orhan, cabinet member for schools and children’s services, said, “It was the young people who set the agenda for our actions to keep them safe and we were fully prepared to take serious action based on their suggestions and comments.”

Andrew Fraser, director of schools and children’s services, added, “We will be letting all our children’s agencies know the key messages arising from this conference. Who better than our children and young people to tell us how we can help them to remain safe?”
