Lads so motivated - Jan
Jan Vertonghen admitted the players were 'angry' at half-time before putting matters right against QPR.
The defender was outstanding as we turned around a 1-0 deficit to secure a 2-1 win and our first home victory of the campaign.
QPR impressed in the first half and deserved their half-time lead via Bobby Zamora’s goal. Brad Friedel also made fine saves to deny Junior Hoilett and Clint Hill.
Andre Villas-Boas made changes at half-time. Steven Caulker replaced Gylfi Sigurdsson, Jan moved to left-back, Gareth Bale back to left wing and Clint Dempsey pushed further forward to support Jermain Defoe.
It worked a treat as two goals in just over a minute turned the game around – Alejandro Faurlin’s own goal followed by Jermain’s fifth of the season secured victory.
“We had a difficult start,” said Jan. “We let QPR play too much and in the second half we changed that, we pressed them earlier, played 4-4-2 and that suited us better against this team.
“Everyone was angry (at half-time) because we didn’t think we played that well. We were motivated and you could see that in the second half.
“It’s been a good week, we deserved to win against Lazio as well, but everyone is happy and we have a lot of confidence for the games coming up in the next couple of weeks. We’ll try to stay in this form.”
