Lads confident ahead of Anderlecht clash - Ben

22 October 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Ben Davies insists the players go into tonight’s (Thursday, October 22) Europa League match in Anderlecht confident of taking all three points.

We’ve drawn our last three consecutive games in all competitions, a run that included a frustrating result in Monaco last time out in this competition.

The hosts grabbed a late equaliser to cancel out Erik Lamela’s first half opener as the contest ended 1-1 on that occasion, but left-back Ben says the players are full of positivity and determined not to drop points again as we go in search of what would be our second win in Group J in Belgium this evening.

“I can’t wait, it’s hopefully going to be a good game and it’s certainly one we’re looking to win,” said the Welsh international ahead of our clash with Anderlecht at their Constant Vanden Stock base.

“The Europa League is very important for us and we want to do as well as we can.

“If we do manage to beat Anderlecht here it will put us in a very good position to qualify. We don’t want to leave it down to the last couple games to try to get through, so we’re determined to get a good result here.”

The venue for tonight’s match needs no introduction to our supporters, with the stadium having hosted the first leg of our 1984 UEFA Cup Final success not long after it was redeveloped.

We’ve since been back for a UEFA Cup group stage tie in 2007 and Ben has been impressed by what he’s seen of the ground since our arrival in Brussels on Wednesday afternoon.

“It’s a nice old fashioned stadium,” he said. “The pitch is good as well and that’s very important for us as players.”
