Ladies youths making the grade
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Following successful trials in the summer, Tottenham Hotspur Ladies FC have taken the bold step of forming a Youth team this season in order to develop young talent for their reserve and first teams.
The team, who are mostly aged between 15 and 17, have moved up from Under-15 football last season to the Greater London Regional Women's League Reserve Division Two and playing them in a senior league is starting to pay dividends as they have lost just once so far.
Manager Dave Green has been impressed by the progress the girls have made. "Being one of only three youth sides in the whole League, the squad have worked hard in training and done well in the games. There are still some mistakes being made but it’s understandable, as the reason the side was set-up is to develop their game to feed into the Reserve and First teams in due course."
With 30 goals in five matches and only eight conceded, they are challenging at the top of the league, but opposition teams are now starting to take them more seriously. Dave explains: "When we’ve played the return games the opposition sides have fielded much stronger sides against us, acknowledging our standing in the league."
The successful start to their season has given the free-scoring side great confidence and if their footballing education continues this way, it surely won’t be long before they take the next step up to the reserve and first teams.
