Ladies look to hit back after first loss

Tue 30 September 2014, 15:00|Tottenham Hotspur

After the perfect start, Karen Hills is hoping Tottenham Hotspur Ladies react positively to their first setback of the season this week.

They kicked-off a busy week in the FA Women's Premier League South with a 4-0 reverse at Cardiff City Ladies on Sunday.

It brought to an end a run of six-successive victories - four in the league, two in the League Cup - and Karen is now looking for the right response as the team line-up again against West Ham at Ware FC on Thursday night before facing current leaders Portsmouth, also at Ware, on Sunday.

"I suppose it was inevitable that we were going to lose a game at some point after what has been such a great start," reflected Karen.

"We're now focused on another massive week, starting with West Ham on Thursday night. We determined to get back on track."

Faced with a 15-hour round trip to Cardiff, the ladies actually started well on Sunday only to concede the opening goal just a minute before half-time through Cori Williams.

Michelle Green connected with a corner for 2-0 on the hour mark and a sloppy penalty conceded allowed Lauren Townsend to slot home from the spot. Green struck again as Cardiff countered on 75 minutes.

"It's always a tough place to go to and to be fair, Cardiff were the better team all over the pitch," added Karen.

"We'll look to pick ourselves up straight away and put it right against West Ham on Thursday."
