Ladies back to winning ways

06 November 2014|Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies got back to winning ways against Gillingham in the FA Women's Premier League.

After a run of three matches without a win in the Southern Division, the ladies stormed into a 3-0 lead against the Kent side before securing a final 4-2 scoreline at the Priestfield Stadium.

Manager Karen Hills was delighted with a positive performance after a tough run of games in recent weeks.

"We started really well and Bianca Baptiste saw a lot of the ball, delivering a number of quality crosses that caused Gillingham all sorts of problems," reported Karen.

"We opened the scoring when Shannon Maloney scrambled home from a corner and Wendy Martin made it 2-0 after an excellent combination with Maya Vio.

"The third goal came from a set-piece where Bianca's free-kick struck the crossbar and came back to Maya who set-up Avilla Bergin.

"Gillingham started pressing us in the second half and responded with a free-kick from Ashlee Hincks.

"But two minutes later Avilla latched onto a clearance from Toni-Anne Wayne and finished for 4-2. Ashlee Hincks scored again for Gillingham to make it 4-2.

"It was a great first half performance and we controlled the game from the first whistle, just what we needed.

"We let Gillingham back into it in the second half when we really should have put the game to bed but after a tough couple of weeks it was a great win and pleasing to see us scoring goals again."

Spurs Ladies now face the long trip to Somerset to take on Keynsham on Sunday. "I'm looking for a similar result and consistency in our performances now," added Karen.
