Kyle Walker was delighted to mark his 100th Premier League appearance for us with victory against Everton.
The flying full-back admitted anything less than three points would have left reaching the century mark somewhat hollow, but thanks to his quick thinking and Emmanuel Adebayor’s clinical finish, there was cause for celebration.
“The most important thing is always the three points,” said Kyle, whose incredible consistency has seen him start 97 of our last 101 Premier League matches on his way to 100.
“I said before the game that we hadn’t done too well against the teams around us and that’s where we needed to look to win games, so full credit to the lads.
“It’s a great achievement to get to the 100 appearances in the Premier League and hopefully there are many more to come.”
Kyle played a huge part in the goal – a clever chipped pass perfectly weighted over Everton’s defence to Ade who controlled and drilled home.
“I said to Ade before the game that I was going to set him up,” said Kyle. “He laughed and said ‘I’ll believe that when I see it!’, but he’s seen it now!
“That’s my objective, to defend and try to set up goals and it came together against Everton. It was a great goal, Ade took it superbly.”
Newcastle are next at St James’ Park on Wednesday night and Kyle insisted it is vital to follow up Sunday’s victory.
“It’s always difficult at Newcastle,” he added. “They’ve lost Cabaye, but one player doesn’t make a team, so we’ll approach the game with the right mindset and hopefully we’ll come away with a positive result.”
