Kieran keen to attack as well as defend

31 July 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Kieran Trippier hopes to produce similarly energetic performances to that which he put on in our clash with the MLS All-Stars when the season gets underway.

A half-time substitute in Colorado this week, the 24-year-old right back remained solid in defence while also getting forward on several occasions and sending a range of crosses into the box.

Unfortunately, we were unable to find a way back into the contest having fallen behind in the first period, the All-Stars running out 2-1 winners after Harry Kane halved a two-goal deficit with a fine strike into the top corner.

In spite of the final outcome, Kieran relished the challenge in the States and is determined to help us enjoy a successful season in 2015-16.

“I just want to do well for my team-mates and the Club,” he said. “Every opportunity I get on the pitch I’ll make sure I’m an attacking threat. I’ll try to keep getting balls into the box and keep trying to put them on Harry’s head.

“As for this game, I don’t think it was a fair result to be honest.

“We had some great opportunities in the first half with Harry – if he’d been able to put it either side of the keeper he’d have scored possibly two, but he was unlucky.

“When you look at how hot it is and how our fitness levels are very good, this run-out can only benefit us in the build-up to the first game of the season against Manchester United.”

Pre-season intensifies next week with the Audi Cup in Munich, with Spanish giants Real Madrid providing the opposition on Tuesday night.

For Kieran, that match represents another great opportunity for the players to test themselves ahead of our trip to Old Trafford on the opening day of the Premier League campaign.

“We always want to play teams like that week in, week out,” he added.

“I know it will be another big test for us but we’ll go there and try to win the game.”
