Kids triumph in adversity

English Barclays Premiership

A Spurs youth team including 11 of this year's first-year trainees overcame a catalogue of injuries to reach the Plate Final of the 24-team Milk Cup in Northern Ireland.

The injury list was so bad that we could only field 10 men for our Plate semi-final against Which University JFC of South Africa but we still managed to muster a 3-1 win thanks to goals from John Sutton and Dean Marney.

Unfortunately, the lads' heroics caught up with them in the Plate Final and they were beaten 3-1 by Sunderland, with Marney on target again.

The boys have done the club proud in Portrush, Northern Ireland, in a tournament that also included sides from Manchester United and City, Leeds United and Crewe.

In our group games we beat Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Malmo from Sweden but lost out against County Antrim. We then beat Which University JFC before the final defeat against Sunderland.

John Sutton led the way on the goalscoring front with five in six games. Marney added two with Jimmy Lee and Lee Barnard also on target.

CAN YOU HELP? The club is urgently seeking lodgings for Academy players in the Loughton, Debden, Chigwell and Buckhurst Hill area. For more details, please contact John Moncur on 0208-506-9826.
