Kids delight George

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

George Graham is delighted with how the club’s youngsters have responded to the challenge of first team football.

Simon Davies was the latest new kid on the block to impress with two goals in Saturday’s 4-0 FA Cup win against Stockport County.

Davies, 20, was handed his chance after an injury to Oyvind Leonhardsen and follows in the footsteps this season of Ledley King, Gary Doherty, now first team regulars, and Alton Thelwell, a squad regular.

Matthew Etherington also impressed in a recent appearance, Dave McEwen played a handful of games last month and Anthony Gardner, Ian Hillier and Ciaran Toner have been part of squads.

“The injury situation at the club has been horrific and we picked up a few more blows recently,” said boss George. “But it’s given the kids a chance to come in and they are taking advantage of it.

“Ledley King and Luke Young were outstanding again, Simon Davies came on and scored two fine goals, Gary Doherty is gaining experience all the time. There are a lot of good things happening.”

Even more refreshing was to see a defence consisting totally of home-grown players after Thelwell came on as substitute for the final half-hour on Saturday. He joined Sol Campbell, Stephen Clemence, Young and King in a back five.

“It is nice to see a lot of home-grown Spurs youngsters in the team,” added George. “We finished with five across the defence on Saturday and that is great for the future of the club.”
