Kick it Out Week
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
The first team has led a week of activities supporting Kick Out Racism Week (16th -28th October 2003), part of football's anti-racism campaign 'Kick It Out'.
The Kick It Out campaign was founded by the Commission for Racial Equality and the Professional Footballers' Association in 1993, and aims to challenge and eradicate racism from all areas and at all levels of the game.
Our home match against Middlesbrough at White Hart Lane On Sunday 26th October was used to highlight the campaign to fans, with local school children taking part by walking a Lets Kick Racism Out of Football banner around the pitch before the game and all players donning Kick It Out t-shirts for the pre-match warm up.
During the previous week over 300 children from local schools attended football coaching with our Community Coaches at White Hart Lane's indoor facility allowing children from the diverse local community to interact in a fun environment. This culminated on Friday with a tournament emphasising the Kick It Out theme, which was attended by David Lammy, MP for Haringey who spoke of the importance of eliminating prejudice from football:
"I am very proud to be the Member of Parliament for Tottenham, one of the most ethnically diverse constituencies in Europe. I grew up in this multi-ethnic community and have supported Spurs my whole life. Tottenham Hotspur continues to be an example to the wider football community that we welcome people from all walks of life and makes it clear that football should be a game for all - free from racism. "
