Kevin's Sonny delight!

17 September 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Kevin Wimmer had more than one reason to be cheerful when Heung-Min Son joined us from Bayer Leverkusen.

First of all, our Austrian recruit from Cologne knew all about the South Korean’s skills after coming up against him in the Bundesliga.

‘Sonny’ scored 17 goals in 42 matches in all competitions for Bayer Leverkusen last term and opened his account for Spurs on only his second appearance after making his debut at Sunderland on Sunday.

But there was another reason as well. “It’s also nice for me that he’s here because I can talk German to him!” said Kevin, who made his Spurs debut in our 3-1 win against Qarabag, where Sonny scored twice in as many minutes on his home debut.

“Sonny is well-known in Germany because he played really well for Bayer Leverkusen and before for Hamburg,” continued the central defender.

“He’s a very good player, strong and quick. He scored a lot of goals in Germany also playing on the wings, right or left. Last season he had a very good season and I think he’s a player who can help the team a lot. He showed that against Qarabag. He can score goals.”

Kevin said it was a ‘special feeling’ to make his debut at the Lane. “I’m pleased I had the chance to make my debut, I tried to give my best and hopefully that will convince the coach to give me some more minutes,” he added.
