Kevin Wimmer was left with a ‘special feeling’ after his Spurs debut against Qarabag at the Lane.
The Austrian international defender started alongside Toby Alderweireld and the central pair had their hands full a we ran out 3-1 winners against the Azerbaijan champions in our Europa League Group J opener.
Indeed, Qarabag took an early lead from the penalty spot but two goals in as many minutes from Heung-Min Son turned it around by the break and after an open second half, Erik Lamela secured victory with our third goal four minutes from time.

“It was my first game for Spurs, I enjoyed it a lot and I’m pleased I got the chance to play at home, at White Hart Lane,” reflected Kevin, who joined from German side Cologne this summer.
“It’s a special feeling for me and I’m very proud that we won the game."
Qarabag were intent on sticking to their footballing principles and created chances. “It was a very difficult game for us, our opponents were a good team with good players,” added Kevin.
“We tried to put pressure on Qarabag for the 90 minutes but they weren’t afraid to play football, they were confident and tried to do their best.
“Our group isn’t easy, so it was important for us to win this first game in the group stage. Now we can look forward to the next game away to Monaco and hopefully we can win there as well.”
