Kevin's familiar foe in Fuchs

08 January 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Kevin Wimmer hopes to get the better of Austrian international team-mate Christian Fuchs when we take on Leicester City in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Former 1. FC Köln centre-half Kevin recalls playing against the Foxes’ left-back in the German Bundesliga during the latter’s time with Schalke – and being on the winning side.

With both men now plying their trade here in England, Kevin has already stoked the pre-match fire with his more experienced compatriot – and his Austrian national team captain – ahead of our third round clash with Leicester this weekend.

But he says it will be very much down to business come 4pm on Sunday, with a place in the next round of the world’s most famous cup competition at stake.

“Christian (pictured, below) is very confident at the moment because Leicester’s season is going well and for him personally it’s been a good season as well,” said Kevin, who has started three times for us since his summer arrival.

“He’s a very important player for Leicester and also the captain of our Austrian national team. He’s a good friend of mine, a very experienced player and of course we’ve already talked before the game. We played in the Bundesliga against each other before and I won so I know how it feels to win against him and hopefully we can do the same in the next two games in the FA Cup and the league. It will be very important for us to win both games.”

As we prepare to embark on another FA Cup campaign, Kevin says he’s excited by the prospect of taking part in a competition that's famed across the world.

“You know about the FA Cup everywhere – in Germany, in Austria, everywhere,” he explained. “It’s a competition you really want to try to reach as a player and of course we hope to take the next step on Sunday.

“We have a great team, we’re in a good mood at the moment and we’re playing at home as well so it won’t be easy for Leicester.”
