Kevin reflects on City triumph

16 February 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Kevin Wimmer said staying calm at the back was key to our victory at Manchester City.

The Austrian international centre-half was pitted against a fearsome City front line at the Etihad on Sunday in what was only his fourth appearance in the Premier League.

Operating alongside experienced Belgian international Toby Alderweireld, the 23-year-old played his part as we kept the hosts’ forwards largely at bay and, although our defence was breached by City substitute Kelechi Iheanacho in the second half, Kevin was generally satisfied with the performance – both from an individual and team perspective.

“A lot of people were saying before the game that this was my first big test but I knew if I did the same things as always, I could do well,” he said.

“I try to do my best in every game, to show my qualities and it went well. Of course, I have players around me who help all the time and make it a lot of fun to play.

“We knew this was going to be a very difficult away game for us, City had a lot of pressure, but we defended well and we said throughout: ‘Stay calm.’

“They have good players but we knew if we defended well we wouldn’t concede many chances and we can be very happy with the win. It was a strong performance from everyone and it was a special feeling to celebrate with the fans after the second goal and then at the final whistle.”
