Kelly eyes treble chance
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Stephen Kelly is hoping to put his injury woes behind him and build on his promising season so far - two wins with no goals conceded.
An ankle injury sustained in pre-season put paid to his chances of staking a claim in the early stages of the campaign. He received a surprise recall at left-back in Martin Jol's first game in charge at Burnley, where he impressed but received a broken thumb and concussion for his trouble.
The Head Coach, however, kept him in mind and the Republic of Ireland under-21 skipper got his chance again against Blackburn at the weekend in his favoured right full-back position.
"It was great, I was surprised to get the start, but it was a good opportunity to play," reflected Steo at Spurs Lodge. "I was at left back last time, went back to my right side and I enjoyed it.
"It's been one incident after another for me this season. You've got to be patient, sort of roll with the punches and see what happens. I got the chance which was great for me because the two injuries were devastating. You've got to deal with things like that in football though."
The 21-year-old knows by now that things can change very quickly in football and did not let himself get too down over the setbacks.
"Exactly, I never let it upset me too much although I was a bit depressed over missing games. You've got to get back, work at it and try and put yourself in the frame again. It happens to everyone and it is something you have to do."
Stephen made 11 appearances last season - including starts in the final five games - and admits with the all the changes during the summer he didn't know what this season would have in store for him.
"I wasn't too sure what was going to happen, especially with a new manager coming in. Even if I was not going to play I felt being in the frame would be good enough because I'm still young and would get the experience of being involved.
"I've now played two games and hope there are more to come."
And he is proving to be a lucky charm...
"Last season when I played we lost so many games and it was a bit of a downer! Two wins in two games now is great and it has been really good so far."
