Keepers help celebrate Older People's activities

Brad Friedel and Carlo Cudicini, our Club goalkeepers, were recently celebrating the Foundation’s PHASE project, which offers physical activities to Older People.

The ‘Extra Time – Phase’ programme, funded by the Football Foundation through the Extra Time programme, offers older people in Enfield access to regular activity including seated aerobics to help lower the chance of illness or physical conditions.

In partnership with Enfield Council, Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and Extra Time, Football Foundation, the programme promotes social interaction, inclusion and healthy lifestyles through a range of activities and events.

The programme works with a range of day care centres across Enfield including the William Preye Centre and Rose Taylor Centre offering 18 hours of provision a week in total.

Cudicini could see the positive impact the programme is having on the participants; “I think it’s a great project, seeing so many people involved with great spirits, I think it’s fantastic. Also to spend time together; sometimes older people tend to stay alone and this is not ideal, so having them here, having fun and moving a little bit is great for them.

“Tottenham is doing a great job, helping with this kind of project. I think everyone at the Club and the players are happy to come along and see how the projects are doing. There’s a very good atmosphere and all the people are enjoying themselves.”

Brad also recognises the positive impact of programmes such as this, “The best way to sum it up is, when we walk into a room you see how it brightens up some of the faces of the people here. The community programmes reach out to people on all walks of life and when Carlo and I walked into the room today there were a lot of smiles on faces, that’s the best way to sum it up really.”
