Keep ball the key - Harry

Harry Redknapp insisted possession was the key to victory over West Ham in the Barclays Asia Trophy in China on Wednesday.

Harry Redknapp insisted possession was the key to victory over West Ham in the Barclays Asia Trophy in China on Wednesday.

Jermain Defoe struck the only goal of the game in the 75th minute at the Worker's Stadium in Beijing.

We now play Hull City in the final of the tournament on Friday (July 31, 8.30pm local time/1.30pm UK) after the Tigers beat local side Beijing Gouan in the second match.

It was a game we dominated and could in fact have won by more - West Ham only seriously threatened Carlo Cudicini's goal once late on.

"We played some fantastic stuff," beamed Harry. "We kept the ball superbly and created plenty of chances.

"It's about keeping the ball in these conditions. If you give it away, it's a hard job to get it back because it's hot and very tiring out there.

"We had so many chances that you start wondering if one's going to go in for you but we kept the ball well and that was the key. We made them chase the ball.

"I thought the midfield played well, Jamie O'Hara (later named Man of the Match) was excellent and we controlled the game from the middle of the park."

Roman Pavlyuchenko hit the post, Kyle Naughton, Jamie and Tom Huddlestone all went close in the first half while after the break, JD had a couple of chances and Luka Modric was denied by Robert Green.

"The lads showed a great attitude and Jermain looked so sharp that it was only a matter of time before he took a chance," added Harry.

"He had a few opportunities that he made for himself with his terrific movement and his pace. I was very pleased with him."
