Keen to meet you!

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Kieran McKenna and Phil Ifil hope to lock horns in the European Under-19s Championship in Northern Ireland over the next 10 days.

Midfielder Kieran has the proud honour of captaining the Irish in the first such tournament to be held in the country while defender Phil is part of the England squad hoping to go all the way.

The team-mates at Spurs have been kept apart in the group stages with England in Group A alongside France, Norway and Armenia while Northern Ireland face Germany, Greece and Serbia & Montenegro.

England kick-off proceedings tonight against France at the Oval, Belfast at 5.30pm on with Northern Ireland facing Greece at Windsor Park at 8.30pm the same evening.

The top two from each group progress to the semi-finals and Kieran has underlined his wish to face Phil and England at same stage in the final stages.

“England is the team we’re gunning for, we all hope we get them,” stated Kieran.

“They will have a strong side but we’re so up for it. We’ll be well prepared. We’ve been together now for a year and a half, been to training camps, had friendlies and got ourselves 100 per cent ready.”

“Hopefully we can win it,” countered Phil. “Last time we reached the semi-finals and got knocked out on penalties.

“Northern Ireland haven’t had to qualify. I speak to Kieran when we’re due to play a match and he keeps saying ‘we’re off to a training camp’. We’ve often had a laugh a about it.

“I’m confident we can do well. We’ve a strong squad with players who have played in the Premiership and Championship and if we’re all fit I’m sure we can win it.”

Meanwhile, Kieran sees it as a huge honour to captain his country. “This is the first time we’ve staged a major championships and it will be a proud moment for me.

“I just hope we can put on a good show. There will be a lot of coverage and everyone is excited about it.

“We don’t want to just make up the numbers and be happy to be there against some of these big nations, we want to show that we can match them and see if we can cause an upset.”
