Kasey's winter wonder
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Kasey Keller is a devout believer in the merits of the Premiership introducing a winter break.
At the instigation of England coach Sven Goran Eriksson, the Premier League are investigating the logistics of having a 13 day break from next season and our USA international goalkeeper suspects that it would be a popular move. That move has now been blocked by the FA Council much to the displeasure of Eriksson.
As it happens, Spurs have just had a longer period of inactivity than the potentially prescribed period, having a two and a half week gap between the Leicester and Middlesbrough games. This came about purely by chance, Kasey insists a fixed break in the calender is a must.
"I've wanted it forever, although it didn't become so apparent until I went to Spain and had a fantastic opportunity just to kind of switch off - both physically and mentally," he reasoned.
"It basically only comes down to about six days off, it is not as if everybody is going to take off for Barbados for a couple of weeks.
"Just a case of having a few days off, having a chance to recharge and turn off mentally, then come back and get ready to play.
"They was talk about putting it in after Christmas, which would have been a shame, because that was such a nice time in Spain to spend some time with my family. However, I'll take it whenever it comes."
Many non-believers in the proposal might point to the fact that the suggested 13 days means just one weekend off and at least half of that time would be spent preparing for the next game. Kasey points out that at least the rest would have been a scheduled one...
"That is basically it," he responded. "But it would have been guaranteed. It would be nice to know it was there."
