Kasey on the pain factor
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Kasey Keller reported that he was struggling to catch his breath after a first half collision with Andy Cole in Saturday's win over Blackburn.
It was feared by onlookers that the goalkeeper might have to be replaced when, in the 19th minute, he came out to close down a run by Rovers striker Jon Stead.
Unfortunately, the ball ran to Cole, Kasey had to advance further and took a heavy blow in the stomach that left him grounded some distance outside his area.
"I cleared the ball and Andy Cole cleared my stomach!" laughed Kasey as he reflected on the incident that took a while for him to recover from.
"When guys break through you have to stop it the best you can. I was in no-man's land and had to make a decision over whether to go back or push out and make a nuisance of myself.
"I wasn't going to get back, so I thought I might as well go out and see if I could clear it. I took a beating, but it is part of the game and you've got to be prepared to take those shots.
"I just couldn't breathe, I haven't had the wind knocked out of me that bad in a long, long time. Pretty much every breath was gone and it took me a few minutes to get some air back in.
"It makes you feel like you've been in a game."
Meanwhile, Kasey added that completing the home season with a win was a welcome boost after recent disappointments.
"It was nice, nice to finish the season at home well - coming back against Arsenal and getting a good result and a clean sheet against Blackburn.
"The game didn't really affect anything for either team, but we went out and put together a decent performance and good a win to finish the home season off.
"A win will always put a smile on your face, regardless. It was nice to finish the home campaign that way and we'll move on from there."
