KAA Gent 1-0 Spurs - Mauricio's reaction
16 February 2017|Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino is confident we can turn around our Europa League Round of 32 tie against KAA Gent after a 1-0 loss in the first leg in Belgium on Thursday night.
Jeremy Perbet’s goal just before the hour mark – ironically during our best spell – separates the teams as we head back to Wembley Stadium, connected by EE, for the second leg next Thursday, February 23.
Harry Kane struck the woodwork during that spell at the start of the second half as Mauricio Pochettino switched formation from 4-2-3-1 to three at the back.
Naturally, the goal lifted the home team and they came closest to the game’s second goal when Hugo Lloris tipped Danijel Milicevic’s shot onto the post.
“When you lose it’s always a bad feeling but the tie is open, it’s a minimal advantage for Gent and we need to play at Wembley next Thursday and try to win the game,” said Mauricio.
“It’s true, in the second half we were better. The first half was an even game. In the second half we changed our formation a little to try to find a solution to create more chances and the start (of the half) was good but we conceded a goal in our best moment. That is football, it’s difficult to explain sometimes.
“We are confident we can turn it around, of course. We need to recover our best feeling as soon as possible. It always happens, ups and downs, but we have to be clever and try to stop that.
“Now it’s time to try to recover from the effort tonight and prepare for the game against Fulham.”
We travel to Craven Cottage in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Sunday (2pm).
