The news that Michael Dawson is back in training at Spurs Lodge will delight Spurs fans following an injury-hit season that our popular defender just wants to forget.
Dawson – together with Tom Huddlestone – has spent more time than he would like in the treatment room. But he was already back running as the campaign came to an end and, typically, he’s back with all his old enthusiasm and can’t wait for pre-season training!
The England centre-back is the main interview in the June issue of Hotspur magazine – on sale from today. And one lucky reader will win his signed match shirt in our latest free-to-enter competition.
“I’ve certainly got to know Tom a lot better because he hardly played at all last season so he’s had it even harder than me,” says Michael. “As a result we’ve been working hard together but it’s great that the two of us managed to get back out there before the summer break and we can now look forward to next season and coming back stronger.
“As a footballer you are naturally programmed to want to play football and that is your whole outlook. So if that is taken away from you, particularly over a long period, then you have to find a different kind of mental toughness.
“I am going away to get myself fit throughout the summer. I am determined to make up for lost time, have a good season and play many games. I’m single-minded in that because you realise how much you love the game when participation is taken away from you.”
