Juande intent

Juande Ramos insists we'll go to Tyneside all guns blazing as we kick-off the defence of the Carling Cup against Newcastle United.

The Head Coach could have been forgiven for taking a slightly more cautious approach to such an important away tie after our indifferent start to the campaign but he's not thinking that way.

"We're defending the trophy and we want to repeat that success," stated Juande at Spurs Lodge.

"We want to win in 90 minutes and if that's not possible, then extra time and then penalties. The intention of the team is to get the victory inside 90 minutes but I'm sure Newcastle will think the same.

"It's always our intention to go out and win but football is 11 against 11 and anything is possible.

"It was the same against Wigan in our last game and I liked some of the football we played but it wasn't possible to score. We had two or three chances, a possible penalty but the referee didn't blow his whistle - that's football.

"But I repeat - it is always our intention to win."

Newcastle kicked-off the campaign with a goalless draw at United, a win against Bolton and impressive victory in round two of the Carling Cup at Coventry but things have gone downhill since then with three straight defeats.

However, one man in form is Michael Owen, who has three goals in five games and clearly remains a danger.

"Michael Owen is an important player, an international player who is scoring goals," added Juande. "But it's not just about Owen, it's about the whole team. We can't just concentrate on one player.

"For me, the most important thing is that we play the best football and then it will be possible to win."
