Joy for Ted, sad for Daz

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle reflected on good and bad news for his England stars after Sven Goran Eriksson announced his World Cup squad today.

There was joy for Teddy Sheringham but Darren Anderton failed to make the 23-man party for Japan and South Korea.

Ex-England boss Glenn obviously knows better than most what the pair were going through leading up to this morning's announcement and was quick to shake Teddy's hand and offer his sympathy to Darren once the news filtered through.

"I'm delighted for Teddy," said Glenn after training. "I think it was always on the cards. Sven has seen what he can do and certainly he's come off the bench and affected the game like he can with his experience.

"I've wished him all the best and told him to go there and enjoy it. At his age it's his last World Cup and perhaps it's a surprise that he never thought would happen when he left Manchester United to come here. It shows what a good season he's had and how well he's done.

"He's been consistent right through the season. Eyebrows were raised when I brought him and Gus to the club but they've hardly missed a day's training between them.

"They've played more football than they have in the last three or four years and they've been our most consistent players, so credit to them."

Glenn added that Darren possibly paid the price for a hamstring problem that ruled him out of a friendly against Holland in February.

He said: "I think Darren was in pole position when he was playing extremely well at the top of his game earlier this season and was called up a couple of times.

"Unfortunately he had a slight hamstring that kept him out of that friendly. That was bad timing for him.

"He took a little time to get back to his best after that but I thought against Liverpool he was at his best again. He's disappointed and we're all disappointed for him."
