Josh's Fiorentina focus

25 February 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Josh Onomah insists victory in tonight’s Europa League return match against Fiorentina has always been a priority for the players, even before our FA Cup exit at the weekend.

We battled out a 1-1 draw with La Viola in Florence last week, meaning we head into the second leg of our round of 32 tie this evening (Thursday, February 25) with a potentially vital away goal.

Unfortunately we suffered a setback on Sunday when Crystal Palace knocked us out of the FA Cup at the fifth round stage, but Josh doesn’t expect that to have a bearing on the players’ desire to get the job done in Europe – highlighting how our determination to get through against the Serie A side has always been as strong as can be.

“This was always an important game to begin with,” said the 18-year-old Academy starlet, who was on the bench in Florence last week before putting in a full shift against Palace.

“Obviously now that we’re coming off a loss, we’d like to get a win, but we always want to win our games.

“We learned last week that Fiorentina are a good side, they work hard and they’re good individually and collectively so we have to be mindful of that, but at the same time we’ve got to stick to our philosophy and carry on playing because we’re a good team with belief.

“We are strong mentally and we know that together we can do it. We’ve got very strong characters in our team so that will help us and hopefully we’ll get the win tonight.”
