Martin Jol almost wrote the headline for as he declared 'JJ saved the day' after Jermaine Jenas rescued a precious Premiership point against Arsenal on Saturday.

Things looked so promising again against the Gunners when Robbie Keane nodded home from close range following Michael Dawson's towering header from JJ's corner to put us 1-0 up after 30 minutes.

We just about edged the first half although Emmanuel Eboue hit the post late on.

It was a completely different script in the second half though as Arsenal dominated. They hit the woodwork twice more before Kolo Toure equalised after 64 minutes, sneaking it at the far post from a Cesc Fabregas free-kick and another Fabregas free-kick after 78 minutes saw Emmanuel Adebayor head the visitors into the lead.

It's fair to say the mood had changed completely at the Lane but JJ was to make sure the home fans left with a smile on their faces, playing a one-two with Steed Malbranque before drilling into the corner from 25 yards. It was just about the last kick of the game.

"If you looked at the first half, I would have been disappointed if someone had told me at half-time that we were going to draw," reflected Martin. "But after the second half, they could have scored a third goal and possibly a fourth.

"You have to play 90 minutes or more and it wasn't even a lucky goal, he does it all the time in training, setting up one-twos and then striking the ball.

"So he saved the day - you could say that."

Asked if he was disappointed with the second half display, Martin had to admit 'yes'.

"In the first half we did everything right," he explained. "We pressed them at the right stages and kept the ball with Berbatov, who I thought was excellent.

"But when you play Arsenal, if you invite them into your half, you ask for problems and that's exactly what happened. We couldn't get out of our half and not only for a couple of minutes, but for the whole of the second half.

"In the first half I was very optimistic but in the second half they could have scored three or four. As I said, Jermaine Jenas saved the day for us."
