Jol on Dutch prospects
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Martin Jol is tipping England to overcome a young Holland side in the international friendly at Villa Park tonight.
Many of the usual suspects from the successful Dutch teams of recent years are not going to be on show in Birmingham - having either retired or not been selected. So there will be no De Boer brothers, Jaap Stam, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Kluivert, Clarence Seedorf or Edgar Davids. Coach Marco van Basten is also without the services of the injured Arjen Robben.
"There is a problem, Frank de Boer and Jaap Stam took the decision to retire and Marco van Basten was very courageous in taking the job," conceded Martin on the prospects of his countrymen. "He has got to play with young players, if you see our back four there are some players that are not even in the starting X1 at Ajax, for example.
"Up front we are pretty good, we have Makaay and the young blond boy (Dirk Kuijt) from Feyenoord who played and scored against Spurs last summer in Seville. They have the same the same problems as England on the left side because I think Romeo Castelen is a right winger - he played against us for Feyenoord as well.
"I feel we are pretty settled in the middle with van Bommel - if he plays, because we have another player from Az Alkmaar called Denny Landzaat. van Basten seems to prefer him as Edgar Davids has not been selected and Seedorf is not in either.
"He has gone for the young kids, it will be a big match for them and, if you see the England team, maybe Holland are in with a chance. Ferdinand, Terry, Campbell and now Ledley King will not be there so England have their difficulties as well."
Even though van Basten does not possess a coaching pedigree, Martin reports that he appointment was well received in his homeland.
"The thing is, he wasn't a coach, so maybe some other coaches say he doesn't have much experience - but we are behind him. He is a legend in the same bracket as Cruyff and Gullit, the main players in our football history.
"People are with him and I think this is a big advantage for him because even if we don't get the results we will back him."
So, a prediction please, Mr Jol...
"Looking at the match overall, we have six or seven players who will being playing in a game like this for the first time, so I think England are in for a win, 2-1 or 3-1."
