Martin Jol insisted that being able to see the youngsters in action ensured the first friendly of our Swedish training camp was a positive exercise.
Our first assistant coach gave an honest assessment after the 1-1 draw against Swedish First Division outfit Falkenbergs FF on Tuesday night.
Lee Barnard, one of the night's big plusses, opened the scoring but the home side were always in the game and equalised in the second half.
"The game itself wasn't that impressive but that could have been because we've had four or five tough sessions over the last couple of days," said Martin.
"It was very hard for them but we were able to make an assessment of the younger lads and we were quite happy with that.
"Lee scored a lovely goal and a second that I didn't think was offside. I was pleased with him because he didn't look too good before the game with aching muscles but he played well and scored.
"We have a lot of young players, a lot of talent and it's their chance to prove themselves. That doesn't mean they will get into the first team at such a young age but it's nice for myself, Jacques and Frank to see them out here.
"We made a lot of changes in the second half, everyone played including the very young players and at the end of the day the result wasn't that important.
"The priority of this training camp is to get into good shape and maybe on Thursday when we play a bigger game and the senior players come back we will be better."
