John on Blues challenge

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

John Gorman says Birmingham City have reaped their rewards from a positive approach to life in the Premiership but insists that three points against them on Saturday is a must.

The Blues have won three out of their last four - including the notable scalps of Liverpool and city rivals Aston Villa - and John thinks that they are nearing the point of Premiership safety.

Manager Steve Bruce was busy during the transfer window bolstering his squad with the likes of World Cup winner Christophe Dugarry, Matthew Upson, former Spur Jamie Clapham and, of course, Stephen Clemence.

The strengthening appears to have paid dividends, the team have set their stall out and John suspects they should soon be planning for a second season in the Premiership.

"Especially recently where they have invested a lot of money," reflected John. "They have reaped their rewards in terms of getting results and are now in a position where they could possibly be safe.

"I'm sure they would like to continue with their form, but we don't aim to give them an easy game. They make life difficult for you, but we need this game badly and are up for a win."

Meanwhile, John is looking forward to catching up with the returning Clemence.

"We've always got on well with Stephen. No doubt he'll be trying his hardest as he always does and it will be nice to see him again and for the lads to play against him," added John, who feels injuries prevented the midfielder from really making his mark in the last two seasons.

"They did to be fair - even this year. Last year he had a good pre-season and then got injured against Blackburn. He was very unlucky and injuries prevented him showing his full potential.

"It is unfortunate that he had to leave the club, but we wish him well. He is a good character, I know his family well and they are very nice people.

"We have nothing but good thoughts about Stephen - but we want the three points more than they do."
