Job done for Nacer

24 January 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Super-sub Nacer Chadli was happy with the impact he made as we overturned a 1-0 deficit to run out 3-1 winners at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The 26-year-old stepped off the bench in place of Eric Dier 10 minutes into the second period as Mauricio Pochettino injected some fresh attacking impetus with the lads trailing to Jan Vertonghen’s unfortunate own goal earlier in the game.

And the change paid off as Nacer supplied the cross from which Harry Kane headed us back on level terms, with the Belgian international going on to add his own name to the scoresheet in stoppage time after Dele Alli’s stunning goal had put us into the lead.

It was a second strike in three days for Nacer, who also netted in our midweek FA Cup win at Leicester City, with the attacking midfielder understandably thrilled to be back among the goals.

“I’m very happy for the team that we have a lot of players in the squad – it’s always good to have quality on the bench. I came on today, I made an impact and I’m very happy,” he said.

“That’s all it’s about – winning games – and if you’re playing you need to make an impact.

“We played attacking football like we always do, they got a lucky goal and they defended well, we created many chances but we couldn’t score. Eventually we got the first goal and then we were able to score the second and the third one.”

Nacer’s strike in the fifth minute of added time was a fine one from long range, but he admitted that he was upstaged by Dele after his magnificent turn and volley on the edge of the box.

“I prefer his goal to be honest!” he said. “It was unbelievable. I was just five or 10 yards from him and I saw the action that he did. It was very, very beautiful to see. It was a nice finish and it put us 2-1 up.”
