Jermaine Jenas gave his encouragement to pupils at South Haringey Junior School taking part in the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s Reluctant Writers’ Programme.JJ went around the classroom lending a hand and taking an interest in the work being done by the children, and as a treat he refereed a game of football and answered any questions the pupils had for him.
And our midfielder was impressed by what he saw, saying: “In modern times we’ve seen more and more people relying on computers, so this scheme is important because handwriting is the bread and butter and where it all started.
“The likes of myself coming to visit hopefully gives the children a bit of a lift and encourages them that little bit more.
“I hope the day was special for the children. They were asking me a lot of productive questions and that just goes to show they are learning.”
The Reluctant Writers’ Programme runs as part of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s School’s Programme.
The scheme presents writing as a fun, useful activity with real life contexts. The children involved get a chance to write, and receive back, a letter from one of our players as part of the scheme.
Club coaches are trained to deliver the programme, and playing football after each session is used as a weekly reward for working hard.
