Jermaine Jenas admitted he was struggling to catch his breath early on in Saturday's victory over Southend United - not that you would have noticed. The midfielder enjoyed his first minutes on the pitch since coming as substitute at the Emirates Stadium at the beginning of December, where he suffered an ankle injury after making his comeback from a knee problem.
He produced an all-action display in the FA Cup 4th round on Saturday and was rewarded with a goal when he latched onto Aaron Lennon's cross. He agreed that is all made for a happy return.
"It was and just great to be out there playing again after such a long time. To come in and nick a goal was also good.
"It took me a while to get my breath in the first 15 minutes but, to be honest, the longer the game went on the stronger I felt. It is a credit to the staff we have got here at Tottenham, the fitness staff and physios."
His efforts did not go unnoticed by the fans, something JJ much appreciated.
"They did, the fans were great again and it was nice for me to get the reception I got. It is a good feeling to know you are wanted at any club.
"It does set us up for Wednesday now and we needed that after the disappointment we had against Arsenal. We needed to get everyone buzzing again and that's what we did."
