Jim's Under-17 Review
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Jimmy Neighbour is more than satisfied with the progress achieved by his under-17 group over the course of the now completed campaign.
His side won their section of the FA Premier Academy League before falling at the quarter-final stage of the play-offs with an unfortunate 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United.
An advantage for Jimmy, who stepped up to full-time coaching of our under-17s two years ago, is that he worked with the boys before when he was working part-time with the under-15s.
"I'm very pleased with the season from the boys," reflected Jimmy. "I've had them before when they were at under-15 level two years ago on a part-time basis, so I knew most of the boys anyway.
"I think it helped, I knew their backbone and a lot of their strengths and weaknesses before they came back to me. It gave me an insight into them straight away.
"I'm very pleased with the way they've worked and they've shown a great attitude this year. They are a good bunch of kids, a nice bunch of kids who get on great together."
Jimmy says team spirit helped the group overcome the loss of Jamie Slabber, Nicky Wettner and Marcel McKie to Pat Holland's under-19 side and compensate to such an extent that the league was still won.
"They've a great team spirit as they proved by getting round each other and getting as far as they did. They won their league and did very well considering we lost Jamie, Nicky and Marcel in the first two or three months.
"So we were playing with three schoolboys, Michael Malcolm, Ricky Dobson and whoever else would come in depending on position requirements.
"The lads did well."
