Jimmy's boys in last eight
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Jimmy Neighbour's under-17 side progressed to the quarter-final knock-out stages of their Academy League after a 2-1 play-off group win over Coventry at Spurs Lodge on Saturday.
The boys now face Sheffield United at the Lodge on Saturday April 20 after the tense encounter with City that had about ten minutes of stoppage time. Jimmy takes up the story...
"It went on for ever, I think the referee was waiting for them to score!
"The boys did really well. We started off a bit slowly and let in a really sloppy goal in the first half, which was a shame because we deserved to be at least two-up and created some really good chances.
"We went in one-down and came for the second half and showed a great attitude, great team spirit and we could have won the game by two or three.
"After about 65 minutes we took a good quick free-kick. Tim Ford laid it off to Jon Black and Jon struck it from the edge of the box, was perhaps a little bit fortunate, it hit someone on the way and rolled in.
"We need those goals sometimes. You earn your luck and I think they've definitely earned it.
"The second goal was completely down to little Dan Perry at right back, he did ever so well. He closed the fella early, won the ball, played the ball down the line and kept his run going into the box. The ball came in and he got his toe to it to score.
"So I am absolutely delighted for the lad, he did really well. That was after about 75 minutes and after that it felt like about 100 minutes left.
"We needed to win, we couldn't afford to draw. If we had Coventry would have gone through - so it just shows you what sort of character this group of boys have got."
