Jimmy stars as lads lift F30 London Legends Cup

An all-star team of former Spurs players defeated their counterparts from Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham to win the F30 London Legends Cup on Sunday.

Held at Leyton Orient’s Matchroom Stadium, veteran stars from the four rival clubs were pitted against each other in competitive 30-minute matches as part of a specially-designed tournament, with the former White Hart Lane group emerging victorious after a penalty shootout triumph against Chelsea in the final.

By coincidence, the win fell 30 years to the week since the Club’s famous 1984 UEFA Cup final shootout victory against Anderlecht - with several key men from that famous night involved again at the weekend.

Paul Miller, who collected the trophy from Glenn Hoddle on the pitch afterwards, was joined by former team-mates Graham Roberts, Mark Falco and Micky Hazard, with Ossie Ardiles installed as manager.

Ricky Villa, Teddy Sheringham, Simon Davies, Darren Anderton, Steve Sedgley, Justin Edinburgh, David Howells, Paul Walsh, Ruel Fox, Chris Perry, Gerry Armstrong, Paul Price, John Lacy and goalkeeper Jimmy Walker completed the squad.

And ‘Maxy’ insisted the ex-Spurs lads were worthy winners: “We had a strong team out and I think as soon as Teddy Sheringham and Darren Anderton turned up we were installed as favourites!” Miller joked.

“Our goalkeeper Jimmy Walker had a fantastic competition, for me he was our man of the tournament. Simon Davies was outstanding too and I think we all gelled and adapted well.

“It was hectic for me. I ended up being a player, captain and assistant manager to Ossie - I’ve never been so busy!

“But we were delighted to win it and it was nice to lift the trophy.”

Davies, Sheringham and Anderton were on target in a 3-1 victory over Arsenal, before a Sheringham brace sealed a 2-0 triumph against West Ham.

The final against Chelsea - whose squad featured the likes of Tore Andre Flo, Jody Morris and Michael Duberry - ended goalless, but a 4-3 win on penalties was secured when Walsh, Anderton, Falco and Davies scored and Walker saved two spot kicks.
