Jermain's treble chance
Jermain Defoe aims for a Slovenian hat-trick against NK Maribor tonight (Thursday, October 25).
The in-form striker has a 100-per-cent record in internationals for England against Slovenia.
Jermain has scored the winning goal in both of England’s matches against Slovenia at senior level - a 2-1 friendly win in 2009 and most memorably, a 1-0 win in the 2010 World Cup Finals in South Africa.
Now he’s after three out of three - but expects a tough game at the Ljudski vrt Stadium in Matchday Three of this season’s Europa League campaign.
“It’s a game we’re looking to win, but a difficult game,” said ‘JD’, who celebrated his 200th career goal in Saturday’s loss against Chelsea.
“They beat Panathinaikos 3-0 at home (in Matchday One) so it will be a test, especially away from home.
“We’ll stick together after Saturday’s loss, but overall I thought we played well against Chelsea. At 2-1 up I thought we’d go on and win the game, but they are a good side.
“I thought we played well and perhaps a draw would have been fair. To lose, we’re all disappointed.
“We’ll look to put that behind us in Maribor. It's tough. but we always create chances and hopefully we’ll get the win.”
