Jermain Defoe says the lads are determined to get back to winning ways at Southampton on Sunday.

Our sequence of four-successive victories in the Premier League was ended by leaders Chelsea at the Lane last weekend and we were held to a 1-1 draw by Slovenian champions NK Maribor in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Southampton have taken four points from their first eight games back in the Premier League but that doesn’t tell the full story.

The Saints impressed in big games against Manchester United and Manchester City - they led in both, but suffered late defeats in both - and more recently beat Villa 4-1 at St Mary’s.

“I think Southampton are a good side with good players and they move the ball well,” said striker Jermain, who bagged his 200th career goal against Chelsea.

“I watched them against Manchester United and although they lost that game, for the first 20, 25 minutes they were unbelievable.

“I can remember playing at St Mary's a few years ago, it’s a lovely stadium and it will be rocking.

“It will be a tough match but I can’t see why we can’t go there and get the three points.”
