Jermain Defoe paid a special visit to Raynham Primary School in Tottenham to support the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation's Sportsmanship & Behaviour Intervention Programme. The striker’s visit was a reward to pupils who had been given ‘golden time’ with our community football coaches for their good behaviour during the week.
Jermain took part in the coaching session with the children and also answered any questions they had for him.
He said: “It’s a good scheme the Foundation are running down here, as well as in other local schools, so I thought I’d come along and show my support.
“If football can be used as a reward for good behaviour in school then it just goes to show the positive effect the game can have on communities and young people.”
The Sportsmanship & Behaviour Intervention workshops run as part of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s Schools Programme, which operates in primary schools throughout Haringey, Enfield, Barnet, Hertfordshire and Essex.
The workshops are focused on fair play and good sportsmanship, with the aim of encouraging young people to play fairly and focus on their behaviour during sport, as well as in their general citizenship at school.
These sessions are complemented by an additional football session at the end of the week, which Defoe took part in, for children recommended by their teachers.
