Jan Vertonghen became the first Spur to score at the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil when he netted Belgium’s winning goal in Thursday night’s 1-0 triumph over South Korea.

Our versatile defender, who captained his country, slotted home the rebound after South Korea goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu had saved from Divock Origi.

Indeed, it was Jan who played Origi through on goal with 13 minutes left on the watch – and after finishing off the attack with what turned out to be the winning goal for the Red Devils he sprinted over to the stands to celebrate with delighted onlookers.

Spurs team-mates Mousa Dembele and Nacer Chadli – the latter on as a substitute – rushed over to join the celebrations as their team, which had been reduced to 10 men in the first half with the dismissal of Steven Defour, consolidated top spot in Group H with their third win out of three.

Check out how Jan’s big moment panned out in the photos above.

Belgium will now meet USA in the round of 16 on Tuesday at 9pm.
