Jan's perfect day

04 October 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Jan Vertonghen described our fine victory against City as 'the perfect game'.

The central defender certainly played his part with another classy display alongside Toby Alderweireld.

Indeed, our clean sheet means we're still yet to concede a goal from open play in the Premier League this season.

Our pressing game certainly caught the eye and made the headlines against Pep Guardiola's side - a team that had won six out of six in the league before Sunday.

An own goal from Aleksander Kolarov and Dele Alli's close-range finish secured the 2-0 win and stretched our unbeaten start to seven games - our best in the Premier League.

"It was an unbelievable win," reflected Jan, now on international duty with Toby and Mousa Dembele as Belgium face Bosnia-Herzegovina and then Gilbraltar in World Cup qualifying matches.

"It was a perfect game. The way we trained to face City, everything made sense and it worked out against one of the best teams in the league.

"We created a number of chances and we have the quality up front not just to put them under pressure, but also to finish those chances.

"It’s the best start in the Premier League for Tottenham and that’s what we wanted. That makes me very proud."
